A SAFE PLACE TO BE
The Alliance Club offers youth a safe refuge from the downtown streets. This is achieved by
having some basic guidelines in place regarding alcohol and drugs use and mutual respect.
Any behaviour that is deemed inappropriate, such as being under the influence of drugs or
alcohol or behaviour that is aggressive, intimidating or degrading in nature, is not acceptable
and will result in the youth being asked to leave the premises.
It should be noted, however, that YES has an emergency access policy that allows youth,
who do not otherwise have access to YES services, the opportunity to receive assistance
and counselling in times of emergency.
The primary role of staff at the Alliance Club is to focus on building trusting, supportive
and therapeutic relationships with youth. Once this relationship is established staff are able to
assess the needs of the youth and make appropriate referrals.
The Alliance Club acts as a linking agency to services that can assist youth in dealing with
their issues constructively.
As a member of the provincial Reconnect system, one of the priorities of the Alliance Club
staff is to help reconnect missing youth to their families/caregivers
