Specialized Youth Detox [SYD]
bedroom

The SYD program is a non-medical detox service offered to youth between 13 and 18
years old and is offered by the Youth Empowerment Society in partnership with the
Boys & Girls Club Services of Greater Victoria.

The program is for you who:

    1. Are willing to enter the program and are asking for support to detox.

    2. Have both of the following:

Symptoms of withdrawal from alcohol and/or other drugs
A health status that does not require hospitalization

Referrals to the SYD services will be accepted from anyone in the community.

Admission to SYD will be determined on a case to case basis after an initial meeting
between the youth and the SYD youth and family addictions counsellors, medical
assessment and availability of resources.

All youth admitted to SYD will develop an individualized personal withdrawal/detox
plan in conjunction with the SYD counsellors and when appropriate with their
family/caregiver.

The SYD Program promotes the integration of appropriately matched best practice
treatments for youth experiencing co-occurring disorders. SYD offers youth a friendly
and easily accessible service that welcomes all members of our diverse youth community.

Program Options:

SYD Care Home (Boys & Girls Club Services of Greater Victoria):
Provides a supportive residence for a youth when their current living situation is
unsuitable for home detox. The length of stay in this family setting is up to 12 days.
Services in addition to a safe environment are: assessment, outings, support and
one-to-one counselling for the youth and support/education for the family/caregivers.

As part of the SYD Program services all youth are offered post-withdrawal treatment
planning including psycho-educational information, exploration of longer-term treatment
options and referral services.

If you have any questions or require further information we would be glad to
meet with you or your group to explain the SYD Program.
