What Is Gender-Based Violence?
Gender-based violence is harm or abuse related to a person’s gender, gender identity, or gender expression. It includes physical, sexual, emotional, psychological, or financial abuse, as well as threats, coercion, and controlling behaviour. It can occur in person or online and affect people of any gender.
You do not need to be certain about experiencing abuse to seek help. We can discuss your concerns and review available support options.
About the Program
The Gender-Based Violence Youth Response Program offers timely, trauma-informed, and culturally safe support to youth in Greater Victoria. Our Response Worker provides a respectful, non-judgmental environment where young people can discuss concerns, explore options, and access support at their own pace.
Support is tailored to each young person’s circumstances, focusing on safety, well-being, and reducing harm. This may include safety planning, accompaniment to health appointments, or connecting youth with community services.
Participation is voluntary. Youth may contact the program directly, and referrals from community service providers are accepted with the young person’s consent.
